Job Description

We are seeking an experienced engineer in switching power conversion and analog circuit design and with the imagination, interest, and overall problem-solving ability to make strong contributions to the conception and development of new products. This is a hands-on role with involvement across the entire spectrum of the engineering process, from conception to prototyping to circuit layout to mechanical/thermal integration, including shepherding of new designs through manufacturing and support of designs during their product life cycle.

About us…

Established in 1963, Wilmore Electronics Company, Inc designs and manufactures electronic power conversion equipment in the power range from a few watts to a few kilowatts. We focus primarily on dc-input power supplies – dc-to-dc converters, do-to-ac inverters, and custom-designed power conversion – for critical industrial market sectors, including utility power generation/distribution, heavy transportation (railroad/construction/mining), and wireless communication/telemetry.

A few of the reasons to come and work with us...

  • We have a long-established reputation for excellence in the markets we serve.
  • We combine the entrepreneurial spirit and freedom of a privately held company with the resources to pursue large opportunities.
  • Our facilities are located in the piedmont of North Carolina, perennially cited by multiple sources as one of the country's best places to live and work.
  • We are deservedly proud of our careful, honest "Wilmore Way" of doing business, of treating customers, and of interacting with mutual respect within the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform and participate in the electrical, mechanical, and thermal design of high efficiency power conversion products, including dc-dc converters, dc-ac inverters and custom-designed switching power supplies.
  • Collaborate with other members of the technical staff to conceptualize new products, optimize design/production methods, and resolve complex issues as they arise.
  • Provide mentorship to other technical staff-in-training.
  • Work with production personnel to shepherd new products into the manufacturing environment.
  • Provide technical support for marketing and customer service efforts with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year or post graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or commensurate educational background
  • 5+ years of solid-state power conversion design experience
  • Self-starting, reliable, and creative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a highly flexible manufacturing environment
  • Must be a US Citizen, or have permanent US work authorization

Preferred Attributes:

  • Good Understanding of mechanical/thermal packaging
  • Well-versed in high-frequency magnetics design
  • CAD, KiCad or other design tools

This is a full-time position and a career opportunity for the right candidate as part of Wilmore’s product design group. Compensation/benefits include competitive salary, vacation and personal days, company-observed holidays, and the opportunity to participate in the company’s Medical/Vision/Life Insurance and 401K Retirement Plans.
